But I also related so much to this post, in grieving a bit for all the time spent (mainly in formal school settings) when we could have otherwise been discovering more about this awe-inspiring world of natural life. Thanks for keeping it real and reminding me of the importance of discovery, at any age! It's particularly frustrating that I can't find in all of CA a source where I can just buy a damned dozen eggs where the pullets came from a no-kill hatchery and the hens really were living free-range (not the phoney way). What's next, the "tomatoes suffer too" argument. Veganism is the only ethical, environmental, workers' rights, and healthy way to go. The data is not debatable. These are matters I just don't see discussed often enough for how central the effects are in our daily lives. However, I would like to see the discussion turn from what is "humane," to what is philosophically and morally correct.

I am not, as Astyk seems to assume, anti-death because I choose to avoid eating animal products. I am certainly anti-suffering, but it is more than that. I oppose the idea that I have the right to prematurely end an animal's life for my unnecessary culinary pleasure. I don't, under my current circumstances, require it for survival, and neither do most Americans.

Claiming that an accidental wild animal death from a farm combine is equitable with consciously choosing to end a life to satisfy an unnecessary taste desire doesn't make sense. There are plenty of excellent points to be pondered further here, but this kind of thing gets in the way.Mandyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15843866115176677361noreply@blogger.com
